According to City wide policy as established by the area pastors in 2015, all candidates for the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation) are to be formed in their home parish. Since the Newman Center falls within the boundaries of St. Mary of the Visitation Parish, formation for those sacraments will be the parish’s responsibility.

funeralsThe Newman Center hosts the Sacrament of Christian Burial for those associated with The University of Iowa or the Iowa City community. For more information, please contact the office or speak to one of the local funeral homes.

First communionThose who are registered and participating at the Newman Catholic Student Center and whose children are participating in regular Religious Education classes, or attend Regina Catholic Education Center, or participating in a home Religious Education program AND who are registered and attending Sacramental Preparation sessions at a parish, may receive the Sacrament of First Communion at the Newman Center.
